Our next Coffee Morning will be held on Wednesday 23rd January from 10:00am – 11:00am.
We will be joined by Hermen Westerbeeke, Sustainability Lead at DFMS.
DFMS is a suite of information products that will allow decision-makers in Uganda to mitigate the impacts of droughts and floods and take better-informed agricultural, environmental, and water management decisions. It is developed in cooperation with the Government of Uganda by a consortium of British organisations, led by the RHEA Group, in a project co-funded by UKSA’s International Partnership Programme. DFMS contains a range of features (e.g. weather and hydrology forecasts, satellite observations, climatology data) which will be provided as a subscription-based service, operated by the RHEA Group, to professional users in government institutions as well as commercial organisations. DFMS started beta testing in November 2018 and is scheduled to be operational by May this year.
Hermen is a Senior Business Developer with the RHEA Group and the Sustainability Lead for the DFMS Project. He has had a varied career which has taken him from his native The Netherland, to Belgium, France, Switzerland, and now the UK. Beside the space sector where he started and to which he recently returned, Hermen worked in the telecoms, forestry, international policy, and energy sectors in both private and public sector organisations. He holds a M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from Delft University of Technology and is an alumnus of the International Space University.
