Catapult Updates:

Christophe Christiaen, Sustainable Finance Lead, Satellite Applications Catapult

As part of the Catapult’s Explore Markets programme, we are looking at ‘Sustainable Finance’ as a market where geospatial data can add a lot of value and where there is a lot of potential for satellite derived applications and services. Sustainable Finance is a subset of the overall Finance industry and covers the range of activities, products and stakeholders that aim to align the existing financial system with global sustainability. It is about deploying private finance more sustainably rather than using the more traditional public and concessional sources of climate and development finance.

As part of these market exploration activities we are starting to engage with sustainable finance stakeholders and identify where the biggest and most relevant opportunities are for geospatial data right now and in the future. We will be publishing our findings in a series of market reports, user profiles and blog posts on the Catapult website. We have recently published our first paper which offers an introduction to the Sustainable Finance sector for the space industry and provides a high level overview of key stakeholders, trends and examples of sustainable finance strategies and products.

Ultimately the idea is to raise awareness of these opportunities both in the finance industry and in the space industry and stimulate both sides to come up with relevant new products and services. If this is a sector you are interested in, please reach out to us to discuss how Catapult can best support you. If you want to engage with some of these stakeholders directly we have listed some relevant finance events and conference on our website where a lot of financial stakeholders should be present.
