Catapult Update 1 – Gemma Wilson, Knowledge Exchange Manager
Closes at 5pm 30 October
The Space Placements in Industry (SPIN) programme provides funding for companies to offer internships to recent graduates or post-grads to work on a specific project. The application process this year has two focusses – Earth Observation and, for the first time, Spaceflight. The funding, from the Agency’s SPIN scheme, is for projects that can be carried out by a recent graduate (graduated in 2017 or 2018) or postgraduate student in a relevant discipline.
Projects must be based in the UK in an organisation active in the specific area which is an SME, university, charity, not-for-profit organisation or government agency; or for Spaceflight related projects ONLY – a large organisation active in the UK. Placements can run over a mutually agreed period, but must be completed no later than 28 February 2019.

Company Pitch 3 – Mark Bradford, WW Strategic Alliances Director, SES Networks
SES Networks are building a collaborative partner network and are looking to make new connections and recruit a wide array of partners, both old and new to support innovation and growth, and deliver the best outcomes and experiences to our customers. They wanted to pitch the partner program to the attendees in the hope we could support some of the entities in the room to innovate and scale.

One potential topic is the goal of expanding Cloud Computing:
SES Networks is enabling high-performance, fibre-like connectivity to customers globally. SES Networks is using satellite-based connectivity to deliver an improved digital experience in customer segments such as governments, global telecommunications, maritime, aerospace, energy and other markets with remote or mobile end points. With cloud adoption increasing worldwide, SES Networks is collaborating with many partners to help ensure that applications and solutions can be deployed on the Cloud to markets that currently have limited connectivity due to unreliable or non-existent terrestrial networks. SES Networks’ O3b Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite network delivers improved resilience and always-on managed connectivity services to Cloud customers. In this area we’d be keen to speak to any companies interested in innovating new services together.
