Sentinel-1A

ESA’s Sentinel-1A radar satellite is due for launch at 22.02 GMT on 3 April, 2014. Its launch will mark a new shift in Earth observation, focusing on operational missions to support users for decades to come. The Sentinel is the first element to launch of the Copernicus programme, which will also be the anchor customer to ESA and Airbus’s Space Data Highway: the European Data Relay System. EDRS is designed to transmit information between low Earth orbiting satellites and users, by using innovative laser communication technology from its position in geostationary orbit.

The European Space Agency and Satellite Applications Catapult will be showing the launch replay and, together with Airbus Defence and Space, will be presenting the most important aspects of Copernicus on Friday 4 April, starting at 11am at the Catapult on Harwell Oxford Campus.

Registration is required. You are advised to do so soon, as places are limited. To register and view the full programme, see www.sentinel1.eventbrite.co.uk

Refreshments will be served.
