Goonhilly Ground Segment

Bring Your Own Technology to one of the world’s premier space communication gateways.

Our Ground Segment facility is located at the home of satellite communications, Goonhilly, Cornwall.

We provide an operational S and X band tracking dish antenna, an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) / Very High Frequency (VHF) system, and a multi-mission capable facility that is dynamically reconfigurable on a pass-by-pass basis.

Our tracking dish antenna system consists of a 3.7m dish with a dedicated cabin to house racks with the control and processing equipment. You can also make use of our VHF and UHF uplink/downlink system for tracking, telemetry and control, as well as our network-connected anemometer which monitors wind speed, direction and external temperature.

Goonhilly provides users with a ‘bring-your-own solution’ where third party equipment can be installed, offering a high level of connectivity, and data can be transmitted to the Catapult’s facilities in Harwell. We aim to allow customers to use this capability at a low cost-per-pass basis. You can:

  • Install a modem or other equipment in physical proximity to Goonhilly ground station
  • Test and deploy your software/software defined radio solutions in a sandboxed environment

A networked video camera with IR illumination monitors the antennas and cabin 24/7 to ensure your operations are fully secure.
