Defra, in collaboration with the Satellite Applications Catapult and other partners, held an innovation event on Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) inspections and data.

Inspections for CAP cover many areas, from animal and crop inspections in the field, to inspections on capital and environmental projects, to ensure that we are meeting our obligations for the use of European Commission CAP funding.

The event explored ways of reducing the number and burden of physical farm inspections associated with delivery of the CAP in England, whilst ensuring we continue to fulfil our EU obligations. The event aimed to bring together representatives from Government, research and advisory bodies and industry in the Earth Observation,  digital and data solutions and enabling technology fields to help Defra identify new data and technologies that could be used by inspectors as alternatives to physically visiting a farm.
