1.2 billion people – 16% of the global population – do not have access to electricity (World Energy Outlook 2016), and many more suffer from unreliable energy supply.
Reliable infrastructure, access to water and clean and efficient energy sources are critical for the growth and living conditions in emerging countries around the world, particularly in rural areas.
Satellites, inherently global and ubiquitous, are the ideal technology to develop global and scalable solutions to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in this area.
The Satellite Applications Catapult recently launched the Satellites for Emerging Markets Thread to provide the benefits of satellite data and technology to emerging markets across the world.
The Catapult recently held our first workshop for the Satellites for Emerging Market Thread, with the aim of addressing utilities and infrastructure challenges through satellite applications. This workshop introduced emerging market challenges, satellite application capabilities and funding opportunities to develop innovative solutions, as well as offering opportunities to network and collaborate with other organisations.
– Identify main challenges faced by Emerging Markets in the sector and discover how satellite applications service providers and industry can come together to address them
– Discover funding opportunities and meet and present your ideas to funding organisations present on the day
– Engage with new companies and stakeholders to create partnerships
