18/06/2013 - 7:00 pm

Venturefest is a business creation networking event at the heart of Oxfordshire’s economic ecosystem. Venturefest 2013 will focus on areas of commerce that are significant not just in the county, but nationally and globally, one of which is space.

The Space Cluster is built around a core of organisations located on the Harwell Oxford Science & Innovation Campus, with developing links to other centres of excellence around the UK. Alongside the Satellite Applications Catapult, the core organisations at Harwell include the UK ESA Centre, the ESA Business Incubator Centre, and RAL Space, together with a growing number of new organisations locating on to the Campus. The Space Cluster is a key asset in helping Space companies, and those that use Space capabilities, to grow and reach their maximum potential and is the focus for a joined up national approach for growth in the Space sector.

Space Cluster Breakfast session

The Space Cluster Breakfast session will provide an overview of the current developments within the Harwell Oxford Space Cluster including the European Space Agency (ESA) expansion in the UK, as well as the new Satellite Applications Catapult.

There will be a specific focus on how Space Cluster opportunities and mechanisms, like the Technology Strategy Board’s Launchpad and the ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC), can assist space companies, and those that use Space capabilities, to grow and reach their maximum potential. A good example is IGeolise which began as a start-up working within the ESA BIC.

Local SME businesses, entrepreneurs, business networks and organisations with an existing interest in space or space-derived products and services, and those thinking of entering this area, will be an important feature of the session.

The session will be chaired by Dr Barbara Ghinelli, Harwell Oxford Space Cluster Director at the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
