Elaine Scott
Centre Manager

Elaine is the innovation lead at Business Durham. She primarily works with science, technology and engineering businesses to help build useful connections, facilitate business solutions and bring ideas to commercial exploitation. To do this, she works with a wide network of businesses, support organisations, investors, funders and academic institutions. She has been involved in a many different areas of economic development and regeneration in the last 15 years: to name a few, these include digital, new and renewable energy, electric vehicles, tourism, housing, food and drink sectors. Elaine has also been a marketing and communication specialist, leading on various projects over the years. Currently, Elaine also manages an Interreg project, STEPHANIE (Space and photonics technology for market and societal challenges) in the UK, along with other project partners in Spain, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Belgium and Czech Republic. This project aims to develop policy improvements that will best position businesses to benefit from R&D investments within these areas.

Sylvia Elliott

Sylvia is a highly experienced business support officer. Her work with the Centre of Excellence has a key focus on managing project finance and uses expertise in systems and process development to ensure smooth financial management of projects. With a strong knowledge of procurement processes, Sylvia brings a number of skills to the team including time management, event management and overall customer first approach to providing client support.

John Holmes-Carrington
Internationalisation Advisor

John is hosted at RTC North and is the Enterprise Europe Network Internationalisation Advisor. He runs Northern Orbit, which is focused on brokering international opportunities for SMEs working across Space, Satellite, Aerospace & Defence and works alongside the North East Satellite Applications Centre of Excellence to encourage the international networking and collaboration of these sectors. Northern Orbit has the sole purpose of supporting SMEs to find international partnering opportunities and developing the northern supply chain for global opportunities within the sector.

Paul Bhatia
ESA Business Applications Regional Ambassador

Paul has over 15 years of experience working with the space sector, 11 of which have been spent leading the work of the Geospatial Research and Applications Centre of Excellence (GRACE) at the University of Nottingham. He is an experienced member of the geospatial community and has assisted many organisations and businesses to take advantage of geospatial and GNSS technologies through the provision of consultancy, training, testing and business incubation & acceleration. Paul was co-founder of Geomatic Ventures Limited, and has an MSc in Engineering Business Management. The East Midlands region is recognised as being already very strong in the space sector. RAP-MNE will have a regional office in Nottingham, with collaborative links to business support organisations based in Leeds and Durham. The ESA RAP-MNE is hosted by the Nottingham Geospatial Institute at the University of Nottingham.
