Business Development Assistant

Location: Harwell, Oxfordshire

Responsible to: Business Development Manager

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent, 3 month probation and 1 month notice

Holiday: 28 days per annum, plus statutory holidays.

The Role

The Business Development Assistant will support a busy Business Development Department seeking funding across a broad range of satellite applications with values ranging from £50,000 – £5,000,000. Bid writing skills would be a significant bonus.

The jobholder will need to be flexible and be able to demonstrate initiative in a challenging, yet rewarding, environment at the cutting edge of UK space technology.

This is an opportunity to receive training and to develop within a unique and exciting environment.

  • Managing individual business opportunities as allocated
  • Client engagement, conference attendance
  • Account management including customer feedback on bids and projects
  • Managing relationships with external partners
  • Setting up and managing formal business development reviews
  • Status reporting of activities to management
  • Helping to create winning proposals

Any other duties dependent on the needs of the business, which may occasionally require the attendance of events off site.

About You

Required Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in business development – engineering environments preferred
  • Candidates will have worked within a well-organised, multi-disciplined project environment
  • Ability to comprehend complex subject matter – experience of high tech engineering/software environments a plus
  • Excellent self-discipline, adaptability, flexibility and patience
  • High standard of IT skills especially Microsoft Office
  • Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.

  • Costing/finance experience
  • Bid writing/editing experience
  • Ability to influence key decision makers and to challenge when necessary.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and use own initiative.
  • Ability to build relationships, coach and influence at all levels.
  • Ability to exercise effective judgment, discretion, sensitivity, creativity to changing needs and situations.
  • Demonstrate a commercial approach.
  • Ability to think “outside the box” to create pragmatic solutions.
