Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent, 3 month probation and 1 month notice

Holiday: 28 days per annum, plus statutory holidays.

The Role

The Business Strategy Lead is a senior member of the Business Strategy Team, responsible for delivering business plans and strategic insights across the Catapult’s engagements, and supporting startups, SMEs and large organisations in delivering commercial innovation. The team consists of entrepreneurs, financiers and space sector experts. The role reports directly to the Head of Business Strategy.

The role includes being responsible for:

  • Leading client projects and engagements with businesses (of all sizes) and key stakeholders across a range of funding bodies.
  • Writing and delivering business plans, financial models and strategy documents to support the commercialisation of satellite application technologies.
  • Working with entrepreneurs to develop innovative business models, including pro forma financial models and presentations, for investment funding.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative new business models for businesses, Catapult programmes and projects, including financial models and presentations for public and private investment funding.
  • Working closely with the Catapult’s world-leading technology teams, design and implement business plans for emerging satellite application technologies.
  • Leading strategy projects and consulting engagements with clients. Conduct analyses, interview clients and their customers, plan and facilitate stakeholder workshops and translate conclusions into written recommendations.
  • Support Catapult technology teams as they create new commercial spin-out opportunities.
  • Champion commercial innovation across the Catapult by keeping up to date with the latest business innovation methodologies and strategies.

About You

  • Minimum 3 years work experience in a strategy and/or corporate finance role, and at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree obtained.
  • A keen interest in the economics of space and new business models of the space sector.
  • Extensive experience advising on, developing and supporting commercial strategy, costing, pricing and business models. Experience in building and analysing financial models.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, financial and presentation skills. Candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate with entrepreneurs and executive business leaders.
  • Management experience is preferred, with the potential for this role to develop into a team leadership role.
  • Basic understanding of the startup ecosystem, requirements and associated challenges, and financing mechanisms.
  • Candidate must be organised and self-motivated, with the ability to take a blank sheet of paper and an idea and deliver novel solutions.
