Construction Projects Manager

Location: Harwell, Oxfordshire

Responsible to: Head of Operational Services

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent, 3 month probation and 1 month notice

Holiday: 28 days per annum, plus statutory holidays.

The Role

This is an extremely exciting time to join the Catapult’s Operations Team, as there are currently five construction projects of varying complexity and involvement. The role range from taking over ownership of buildings once built to a certain standard (ensuring the defined requirements have been met), through to a complete turn-key project from designing to surveys, to planning permission and building.

In addition, the Catapult has unique facilities that require integration in to buildings on an ongoing basis, and so this role will incorporate this aspect too.

You will be the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including building contractors, legal teams, and every other person involved in the construction of the buildings.

Main Responsibilities

  • Reporting to, and working closely with, the Head of Operational Services to plan and manage the building projects.
  • Managing the whole construction projects portfolio from inception to completion and taking responsibility for all activities in the field of construction. This includes the day to day planning, supervision, direction and monitoring of building projects, ensuring that all projects are delivered in a safe, timely, efficient and sustainable manner, whilst achieving project targets, meeting the Catapult’s expectations and enhancing the reputation of the business.
  • Liaising internally with key stakeholders and externally with professional consultants, construction companies and developers
  • Gathering requirements for buildings from technical teams
  • Identifying needs and requirement for additional technical input for new facilities
  • Manage multiple projects at the same time, including:
    • Overseeing installation of specialist equipment / facilities
    • New building projects from initial concept through to handover to Operations
      • managing multi-million pound projects (organic and green field) ensuring value and quality to meet Catapult’s and external regulatory / statutory requirements within strict budgets and timescales
    • Produce project construction programmes
    • Responsibility for controlling costs, timing and quality in line with targets within the project programme.
    • Record and report the progress of each project and maintain a correct reporting and financial record for each project
    • Liaise with the Site Foreperson to co-ordinate the use and installation of correct materials to prevent any potential on-site issues.
    • Ensure consistent implementation of standard site practice and safety procedures.
    • Manage project handover and ensure defect free completion, including:
      • Ensuring costs and contracts for ongoing Operational commitments are known, assisting the Head of Operational Services with Operations budgeting
      • Ensuring smooth transition to Operations Department
    • Prepare and present project progress reports to reflect the current and future performance of the whole portfolio
    • Work closely with all Catapult departments to ensure the proper flow of information during project stages
    • Manage risks and issues across projects with mitigation / corrective plans in place

About You- Required Skills and Experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing building projects
  • Self-starter, autonomous with excellent time management
  • To be preferably RICS qualified or similar
  • Trade or 3rd level construction management qualification
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of planning process.
  • This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced construction project manager.
