Embedded System Software Engineer


We’re looking for highly motivated engineer to help us develop state of the art telecommunication terminal for fixed and mobile solution.

 The right candidate should have a computer science/electronic engineering degree (or similar) and demonstratable industry experience in embedded firmware development projects. Knowledge of RF systems and specifically Satellite terminal and RF switching would be advantageous.

You’ll be involved throughout the development cycle which will include the evaluation of new technologies, development of new products and ground-breaking novel concepts.

We’re looking for someone who can apply a thorough engineering approach, is logical, proactive and innovative. The role will require design, test, review and debugging skills. It’ll be important to integrate effectively with the other team members, be able to break projects down into stages with clear deliverables/dependencies and deliver project work to committed timescales.

This is a permanent role directly with Satellite Applications Catapult. We are based in Harwell with great public transport connections from all of Oxfordshire as well as London. About You

Required Skills and Experience

  • Relevant experience in software design and development, including previous experience in embedded development gain in terminal or handset product development
  • Expertise in C++ and/or other language
  • Generate automated unit, regression and integration tests
  • Demonstrate understanding of embedded firmware architecture and be able to balance trade-offs
  • Expertise in developing for the Linux environment (core)
  • Experience with tools used to debug embedded software including: ICE, JTAG, logic analyzers and protocol analyzers
  • Write clear, high performance, maintainable code to a deadline.
  • Experience in developing interfaces to Microcontroller
  • Knowledge on setting up Test Beds and defining Test scenarios (for software and hardware)

Desired experience

  • Experience working with Virtualization (Virtual Machines/Container, Docker)
  • Knowledge of IP and data Networking
  • Knowledge of RF systems
  • Knowledge of implementing Security principles & techniques or security frameworks
  • Experience developing for Multi OS environment
