Evaluations and Impact Officer

Location: Harwell, Oxfordshire

Responsible to: Head of Evaluation and Impact

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent, 3-month probation and 1 month notice

Holiday: 28 days per annum, plus statutory holidays.

The Role

The Satellite Applications Catapult has been established by Innovate UK to drive economic growth in the UK through satellite applications. The successful applicant will work with the project team to ensure the various pathways to creating economic impact (UK jobs and revenue at businesses that we work with) are understood and clearly communicated. The role will involve monitoring the progress towards this impact which may take several years to realise.

Reporting to the Head of Evaluation and Impact, you will be part of the team that supports the Catapult’s evaluation policy and processes, and the evaluation of projects, playing a key role in demonstrating the economic and societal benefits from our investments. You will be engaged in evaluation projects from our collaborative projects, often partnerships of researchers and businesses working together, and working as part of the project delivery team. This is a diverse role supporting project teams and colleagues in developing the organisation’s understanding of impact, and how to achieve impact from its interventions with businesses in the satellite applications sector.

About You

  • Required Skills and Experience
    Degree-educated, with the ability to research facts and analyse data, or other relevant experience to monitor and evaluate the impact of major projects. This will involve understanding the potential routes to both economic and social impact through projects.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, skills are clear and concise communication. Working with the project team to ensure steps to impact are recorded and overall impact is communicated.
  • Well organised, attention to detail, particularly in written work. The successful applicant will need to produce regular Monitoring and Evaluation reports for a variety of stakeholders. A proven ability to analyse and present complex information is essential.

Desired experience

  • Experience of working in project evaluation and impact assessment role either, preferably within science and innovation context.
  • Experience of theories of change and/or logic models and log frames.
  • Knowledge of Official Development Assistance compliance and/or working on international development programmes.
