As part of the unique services we provide here at the Catapult, we run and manage a huge database of satellite data, this includes a multi-tenant cloud-based system. We are now on the hunt for an ambitious and motivated Linux Systems Administrator to come and join the Infrastructure and Cloud Services team on permanent basis and take the ownership of managing said system.

As part of your role you will be running of daily operations on several unique projects: collecting, processing and archiving earth observation satellite data. Automating services through script and API management, supporting a multi-tenant cloud computing environment for the Space community and providing hands on Data Centre infrastructure support. In addition, you will get exposure to cutting edge, virtualized High-Performance Computing clusters and the opportunity to further develop your existing scripting experience.

This is a permanent role directly with Satellite Applications Catapult. We are based in Harwell with great public transport connections from all of Oxfordshire as well as London. About You

Required Skills and Experience

  • Linux System Management and troubleshooting – Ubuntu/CentOS server administration
  • Python and/or Bash scripting experience
  • Database Administration (MongoDB & PostgreSQL preferable) experience
  • Desire to learn and explore new technologies and applications
  • Excellent customer facing skills (the role will include dealing with external customers mainly over the phone
  • Attention to detail
  • Time management and accounting across different projects
  • Awareness of IT security

Desired experience

  • VMware/Virtualization experience would be beneficial but not essential
  • Datacentre infrastructure support experience – servers storage and networking
  • Knowledge of ESA EO missions and/or satellite data
