Working hours: 37.5h a week

Contract: Permanent, 3 month probation and 1 month notice

Holiday: 28 days per annum, plus statutory holidays

The Role

The Solution Architect is a key member of the Visualisation and Software Engineer Team, responsible for designing, delivering complex digital solutions, supporting the development team as appropriate to ensure that projects are successfully delivered on time and within high quality The solution architect will also be directly engaged with customers and industry partners in solutions workshops, requirements gathering, user testing and related activities.

The team consists of seasoned data engineers, visualisation engineers and graphic design experts in the space sector. The role reports directly to the Head of the Visualisation and Software Engineering team. The role will require travel abroad.

Key Responsilibities

  • Work closely with stakeholders transferring their requirements into a defined road maps for new and existing systems supporting all area of the business.
  • Lead the design and specification of all system components considering functionality, data, security, integration, infrastructure and performance.
  • Work closely with development team ensuring buy-in of the proposed solutions so that the team is motivated to match the detailed design of the solution to the higher-level architecture in the agreed timeline.
  • Support the execution of the project providing all required information to the development and QA teams
  • Document the agreed solution including architecture diagrams, APIs, DB schema, data follow and provide support and guidance for using the new solutions.
  • Mentor other team members
  • Work in a fast-paced, agile project environment with small, focused team

Key Requirements

  • Extensive high-level architecture background with documentation skills
  • Proven software design and design lifecycle experience
  • Experience working with high performance platforms
  • Experience defining APIs and data flow between different platforms and components
  • Proficiency in relational database architecture, design and development
  • Strong Linux expertise
  • Passionate about learning new technologies
  • Experience leading data oriented developers and projects
  • Experience in languages such as Python, Java, Scala, and/or Go
  • Familiarity with multiple database environments and tools
  • Expert SQL coder
  • Display a passion for data and analytics and a drive to improve technically
  • Strong problem-solving and analytics skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced and rapidly changing work environment
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies
  • Solid familiarity with QA processes and test-driven development

Preferred Skills

  • Familiar with Geospatial and satellite data.
  • Experience with Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Familiar with NoSQL databases (Hadoop, Accumulo, MongoDB, CouchDB, etc.)
