Company Description: Bird.i, one of the hottest space start-ups, is looking to recruit a talented intern to make Earth observation social. The company curates the best of the world’s satellite, airborne and drone imagery to create an up-to-date view of our world that everyone can explore, anytime. Bird.i is now looking at exploiting this unprecedented amount of imagery and raise awareness of its benefits.

Project Description: We are all used to getting free access to satellite imagery via Google Maps, and barely notice that the quality may be poor and the image out of date. By curating the freshest and most accurate satellite images, Bird.i aims to create a mass market for observation imagery. The aim of this project is to look at online trends for locations and events, contextualise satellite imagery from those trends, and raise awareness of its value and benefit for relevant businesses and individuals alike.

Student Specification:

  • High level programming language (Python)
  • Experience in social media API
  • Knowledge in data mining technology and statistics
  • Ability to work on their own and as a part of a team

Target courses: Big Data, Data Analytics, Data Mining, Computer Science

The Nitty Gritty: Work period to be agreed with successful candidate but nominally to start 5 June 2017 for a duration of three months. £1,100 pcm.
