Huduma Limited was founded in 2011 and has extensive business experience in IT and Telecommunications, providing business consultancy and technical project management services.

Project Description

We are involved with two emerging technology projects: (i) a European Space Agency (ESA) co-sponsored remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) Intelligent Parcel Delivery (IPD) project to investigate the commercial, technical and operational viability and to enable planning for a sustainable parcel service using autonomous air and ground vehicles; and (ii) UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK co-funded, connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) i-Motors – Intelligent Mobility for Future Cities Transport Systems project.

This internship involves the business, marketing, design and user experience aspects of the service. The successful candidate will work alongside a team of industry experienced engineers, developers and business consultants from our consortium partners based at Harwell and elsewhere in the UK/EU.

Student Specification

The candidate will use graphical and digital visualisation for effective communication to explain to people many of the concepts and technologies used by RPAS and CAV in our marketing material, web site, product and service documentation. Therefore, good communication skills are key, along with a passion for graphics and user experience.

We’d like to apply your graphic design skills to a broad range of communication projects ranging across physical and digital media. These would include explaining what Huduma does, sharing project updates with key stakeholders and regulatory organisations, presenting and promoting IPD and i-Motors services and products at exhibitions, business and press events.  There may be some work involving interesting algorithm development for computer vision problems, 3D modelling and simulation.

This internship is targeted at students from a computer science, computer systems engineering, computer graphics or information systems background, with a strong interest in the Space industry, RPAS and CAV technology and an awareness of IoT, M2M ecosystems and cyber security.

The successful candidate will work alongside a team of industry experienced engineers, developers and business consultants from our consortium partners based at Harwell and elsewhere in the UK/EU.  An international outlook is essential together with good interpersonal skills (problem solving, decision making, proactive approach, negotiation, persuasion, ability to influence at all levels, organisational, effectively prioritise tasks, self-motivated, ability to effectively prioritise tasks, work on own initiative and develop new skills). You must be eligible to work in the UK.

Reporting to the Managing Director.  There will be opportunity for the candidate to work on other projects and be involved in press and marketing events.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Good knowledge of HTML5, CSS and Javascript
  • Experience in web development using Python
  • Excellent graphics software skills to produce: infographics, presentations, visual narratives, animation, sketching, quick prototyping
  • Examples of your work (personal website/portfolio/github)

Additional nice to have skills:

  • Experience with Linux, OpenSolaris and shell scripting, Git, GitHub
  • Virtualisation (i.e. VirtualBox, VMware, Bitnami)
  • OpenSource (i.e. CMS Joomla, Odoo, Redmine, Eclipse)
  • Database design/development (i.e. MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Knowledge or an interest in the Internet of Things (IoT) protocols and standards.
  • Experience in networking technologies (VPN, VLANs) and protocols (RTP, RTSP, HTTP, SSH) and an interest in cyber security.

Targeted courses

S/He is a student studying Graphic Design, Information Experience Design, Communication Design, Computer Science, Communications Engineering or similar courses, with some great visuals on your portfolio.

The Nitty Gritty: 8-week fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate but nominally to start 29 June 2016. (Induction Day will be at Harwell on 27 June.) £1,250 pcm.
