Company Description: Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) is the world’s leading small satellite company, delivering operational space missions for a range of applications including Earth observation, science and communications. The Company designs, manufactures and operates high performance satellites and ground systems for a fraction of the price normally associated with space missions, with ~500 staff working on turnkey satellite platforms, space-proven satellite subsystems and optical instruments.

Since 1981, SSTL has built and launched 47 satellites for 20 international customers – as well as providing training and development programmes, consultancy services, with an innovative approach that is changing the economics of space.

Project Description:The role within mechanical systems would be aligned to the activities required by the workload generated by the projects progressing through the company. Typically this work involves: preliminary configuration trades and mass budget preparation on proposals and studies, mechanical testing support and data processing on development and qualification test campaigns, data processing and conclusions from mechanical analysis and test campaigns.

Student Specification:

  • Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Some knowledge of CAD packages desirable
  • Self-reliant
  • Enthusiastic
  • Quick learner

The Nitty Gritty: Work period to be agreed with successful candidate, minimum of 8 weeks. £1,250 pcm. (Induction Day will be at Harwell on 26 June)
