Company Description: Since Cobham RAD Solutions was launched in Europe at the end of 2013, our comprehensive offering of radiation testing services and advice has become established in both our US and European locations. We offer a similar range of capability at both sites for customers in the HiRel, military and space sectors, covering total dose and single event effects testing. Our location in the heart of the UK space cluster at Harwell demonstrates that space is central to our business.

Project Description:

This project involves supporting Cobham RAD’s team to deliver a radiation test of a complex digital integrated circuit. The test will involve total dose and single event testing, using irradiation facilities located in the UK and in the USA. The successful intern will be involved with the following tasks:

  • Familiarisation with the test system
  • Pre-irradiation setting up of the test system and making baseline performance measurements
  • Installation of the test system in the total dose irradiation facility (UK)
  • Undertaking the test sequence (two weeks)
  • Optimising the test system for the single event testing
  • Installation of the test system in the accelerator irradiation facility (USA)
  • Undertaking the test sequence (up to one week)
  • Data analysis and reporting

The successful applicant will be required to sign an NDA and respect the confidentiality requirements associated with this work.

  • Electronics engineering

Key skills

  • Good electronics knowledge and practical skills (required)
  • Experience with electronics testing (required)
  • Experience with using microcontrollers or FPGAs (required)
  • VHDL and C coding experience (desirable)
  • Ability to travel to the US (required)
  • Full driving licence (desirable)

The Nitty Gritty:

Start as soon as possible and mutually convenient. Two month fixed-term contract. Salary commensurate with Living Wage, travel and subsistence costs will be covered when travelling off-site on Cobham business.
