Software Engineering Community Event

The third event for the Software Engineering Community will take place on Monday 14 of May between the usual times of 1pm and 2pm. This will be a special event, hosted by Satellite Applications Catapult in the Videowall Room, Electron Building.

The event will feature three talks to give a feel for what Catapult do. The topics will be:

Project Eyes on the Seas:

  • Using satellite data to track and prevent illegal fishing
  • Visualisation using the Unity Games Engine
  • Data processing using Apache Accumulo

Project Hepheastus:

  • Using satellite data to monitor the environmental impact of open cast mining
  • Unity games engine and a 3rd party terrain rendering mechanism
  • Issues with such mechanisms and plans for the future

Apache Nifi:

  • A graph based data processing system

This will be followed by networking with tea and coffee and a demo of a VR rig.
