Space Enterprise Labs

As part of the Satellite Applications Catapult’s national Space Enterprise Lab network, we host two Space Enterprise Labs within Cornwall & Devon.

If you have a commercial initiative that could benefit from space and satellite technology, each Space Enterprise Lab (SEL) can help to accelerate your success and engage with the region’s growing space sector. SEL’s provide users with access to resources, virtual demonstrations and Catapult experts, as well as the latest technology.

These facilities are completely free to use and include the following amenities: 

  • Large interactive touchscreens to enable the seamless delivery of meetings
  • Virtual whiteboards with built-in video conferencing facilities
  • Zoom licenses to run webinars and engage community
  • Professional webcams to ensure engagement quality is always high
  • Virtual Reality Headsets for virtual meetings across the community and demos of space capability (1-on-1 or at events)

Where are the Space Enterprise Labs located?

There are SEL’s in Devon and Cornwall at the following locations:

Is it free to use the SEL’s?

Yes, they are completely free to businesses in or looking to be part of the region’s growing space network

Can my business use them on a one off or ongoing basis?

Yes, businesses can use them either for a one-off meeting, event or project or on an ongoing basis.

How can they benefit my business?

Space Enterprise Labs help businesses who are in (or are looking to be part of) the region’s growing space network to benefit from space and satellite technology by offering access to these hybrid and immersive technologies. Looking for advice or expertise on how to leverage space and satellite technology? Wanting to deliver a user engagement workshop to understand market needs? Have an event on space technology you’d like to run? Your local Space Enterprise Lab can help. Here are two real world examples of how they have been used:

Example 1 – Exeter based SME

  • An SME in Exeter were looking at using drones for the mining sector
  • They connected to experts at the Deep Digital Cornwall mining project in Penryn to get end user insights
  • The Catapult provided some additional innovation support as part of extractive industries value stream
  • They brought in expertise from Westcott on drone operation and satellite integration for 5G operation

Example 2 – UX Team

  • The team arranged a video conference in order to bring experts into the room
  • VR headsets allowed the team to explore data captured in 3D to explore UX opportunities
  • A virtual whiteboard meant that everyone could contribute to the conversation
  • An ESA ambassador dialled during the conference to give an overview of upcoming funding opportunities
