Identifying opportunities in the journey to Space-based solar power operations and provision.

Space-based solar power and indeed space energy, are areas of rapid interest and growth, offering an exciting opportunity to provide uninterrupted energy supply from Earth’s orbit, beamed down to a ground rectenna and converted to electricity straight into the grid. The new approach to delivering clean, baseload energy 24/7, all year-round, is one that the UK government have identified as a key technology to help the UK deliver the commitment to Net Zero.

This workshop will build upon the information contained within the report conducted by Frazer-Nash and that of the current positioning of the Space Energy Initiative, to explore and discuss opportunities both technological and market, identifying future benefits across the board. We welcome a range of representatives from varying sectors, to gain a greater understanding of space-based solar power and to offer ideas and suggestions to explore potential blockers and how these can be overcome.

Audience

We hope to bring together both end users of Space Based solar power and those who may contribute to its development. These include the space sector, the power industry, environmental sector, disaster relief organisations, robotics specialists, manufacturing and academia.

Agenda

This workshop will be led by David Homfray, Space Energy Lead, Paula Mills, Space Energy Development Engineer, and Aleksander Tyczyński, Space Mission Analyst, all of the Satellite Applications Catapult with input from Red Kite Consulting whose research into future space supply chains is helping to inform the workshop.

The virtual session will be recorded and available to view across our media and social channels following the event.

The webinar link and joining instructions will be shared nearer to the event.

We look forward to welcoming you!
