The Satellite Applications Catapult (Catapult), a leading UK space company accelerating the invention and adoption of space data and technology, and Voyager Technologies (Voyager), a global leader in space solutions and defence technology, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on In-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM).
With the global ISAM market expected to be worth over £10 billion by 2030, this MoU comes at an important time for the space industry. Voyager and the Catapult intend to explore opportunities including manufacturing and materials development in orbit, advanced robotics, the integration of artificial intelligence, and expanding ISS and future space station services capabilities.
Building on the organisations’ expertise in the field, this MoU is an opportunity for collaboration between the United Kingdom and United States. Leveraging the Catapult’s unique knowledge of and connections to leading UK firms and Voyager’s heritage in the defence and innovation sector, the organisations intend to identify, capture and create commercial opportunities and partnerships to supercharge ISAM capabilities in the UK and US.
Marshall Smith, president of Space Solutions for Voyager said, “At Voyager, we believe in the importance of a sustained human presence in space, and in-orbit servicing, assembly, and manufacturing is a critical enabler of this future. We’re pleased to team up with the Catapult to further explore these opportunities and continue to bring together the US and UK space industries.”
John Abbott, CEO of the Satellite Applications Catapult said, “The UK is home to many companies and research institutions leading the way in ISAM technologies, and ISAM can be a major economic growth area for the UK if we capitalise on our strengths. We believe the MoU signed with Voyager today is a major step forward for the whole ISAM sector as we explore the opportunities to work closely together on innovative projects with the UK space industry.”
