Catapult Updates

  • Transport Programme – Transport Business Manager, Wendy Alison, presented the cross-Catapult / Innovate UK initiative which is seeking £100m for a 5-year Transport Innovation Programme that will deliver £2bn in economic growth and 20,000 high value jobs. The programme will create a framework for industry to develop and implement digital technologies to enhance existing physical transport infrastructure in the North West, creating sustainable capacity for the region.
  • Analysis Ready Data (ARD) – Senior EO Specialist, Dan Wicks, spoke about a current project the Catapult is undertaking in partnership with Defra’s Earth Observation Centre of Excellence and Aberystwyth University to investigate a possible standard for Sentinel-2 ARD, This will result in the operational generation of ARD data, provided through the Catapult’s Sentinel Data Access Service (SEDAS).   • Competitions – Competitions Manager, Kirsten Robinson, updated attendees on the ESNC and Copernicus Masters competitions, both of which are now available to enter.

  • Symltech, Adrian Sutton – Symltech is a leading provider of an integrated and intelligent transport and remote worker software solution for cost-effective service provision and demand management. Symltech have developed an innovative product – Glimpse+ – which allows transport departments to manage vehicles, passengers and third party service providers seamlessly in real-time from a single web portal.
  • Ziffy, Rahul Jadhav – Advanced taxi dispatch system, Ziffy empowers local taxi service providers (B2B clients) with a cloud-based despatch and operations management system.

Extra Shot in Inverness

  • Interface, funded by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), has been matchmaking organisations with Scottish universities and research institutes since 2005, as well being administrators of the SFC Innovation Voucher scheme. It can assist all sectors by scoping out projects for academia ranging from data analytics to garment design, reflecting the wealth of academic expertise that we have on our doorstep.

  • Copernicus Technology Limited Rupert Hornby presented about whether you can afford to launch space vehicles with electrical integrity faults.
  • PDG Helicopters – Duncan McDonald explained how they’re using helicopters to dramatically reduce launch costs. Click here to view their company presentation. 

Cluster Pitches

  • Silverstone Technology Cluster, Pim van Vaarsen – The Silverstone Technology Cluster has been established as a not-for-profit organisation to create an ecosystem which promotes and supports the growth of its members by maximising their global competitiveness and by attracting investment to the region.
  • New IPP 2 Call for Proposals – This is the second call for projects under the UK Space Agency’s International Partnerships Programme. IPP is a £152M multi-year programme which will use the space sector’s knowledge, expertise and capability to provide a sustainable, economic or societal benefit to undeveloped nations and developing economies. The Agency will award grants to successful industrial, academic and third sector organisations to run projects addressing real-world problems with international partners in developing countries.   • Academia: Dr Richard Teeuw, Applied Geoinformatics & Disaster Risk Reduction, School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, University of Portsmouth – Researching innovative training technologies for the disaster response sector.
