Open for Applications

IOD-4 is open for applications! This mission offers a 3U CubeSat platform and launch from the International Space Station (ISS) for an organisation demonstrating a new service capability.

IOD will help you accelerate to ‘proof of concept’ stage by providing low-cost, fast-tracked access to orbit, and a range of operational and business support services to exploit the commercial potential of the mission.

The IOD-4 mission includes:

  • A 3U CubeSat platform from Clyde Space, including integration and testing
  • A launch opportunity from the ISS with NanoRacks
  • Business support as required, including defining the mission and business case, and developing the commercial potential of the service
  • Operational support throughout the mission

All you need to know

Who can apply?

IOD-4 is open to anyone who can clearly demonstrate the commercial potential of the proposed service and a route to market. Organisations or individuals submitting entries are expected to:

  • Lead the demonstration of a service, support payload integration, collaborate on operations, and provide a payload FM and EM
  • Contribute to the cost of the IOD mission
  • Deliver a direct TOI to the UK through the post IOD mission plans

To submit an application, please read and complete the proposal documents below and send them to us at IOD@sa.catapult.org.uk:

Applications can be made at any time below, and are reviewed every 4 months or so.
The next review deadline is midday, 10 January 2019

Dr Chris Brunskill is an electronics engineer specialising in small satellite systems and mission design. He obtained a Masters of Engineering degree in electronics and satellite engineering from the University of Surrey and a PhD in space robotics from the Surrey Space Centre. His work focuses on the development of new satellite applications that utilise small satellite platforms for demonstration of novel technologies and new mission concepts. Chris is passionate about open, innovative technology development in the space sector.
