European Satellite Navigation Competition 2014
The Satellite Applications Catapult, an independent technology and innovation company recently launched the 2014 UK leg of the European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC), to help stimulate and support new ideas and businesses that utilise satellite navigation technology.
The Catapult is running the 2014 UK leg of the European competition together with the University of Nottingham, who have run the competition for the past five years, helping to generate numerous new applications and services making use of positioning and timing technology. The Catapult’s involvement will bring new opportunities to entrants, in addition to the cash prize, through the provision of business support and access to collaborators and investors, which will be available to the prize winners and any solution that has commercial potential.
Stuart Martin, CEO of the Satellite Applications Catapult said, “We are now in a new space age, and the Catapult is very excited to be involved in this pioneering competition. To date the competition has generated some 8000 ideas across Europe and the UK has been consistently amongst the most innovative. Since the UK joined the competition it has been placed in the top five each year and has had two overall winners. iGeolise, a UK SME was the 2012 winner and has gone from being a small company with a great idea – turning distance into time – to a predicted œ1m company by the end of 2014. This is what the Catapult is about, helping entrepreneurs, innovators and people who want to make a difference succeed in this new age of space-enabled technologies.”
