Attendees at next month’s World Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems and Services will have a rare opportunity to see the Satellite Applications Catapult’s Emergency Services vehicle demonstrator in action.

Throughout the week, the Catapult’s unique multi-vehicle demonstrator will be showcased at the Congress in Bordeaux. The one-hour demonstration highlights include:

  • Independent and localised communication for rich applications/services
  • Resilient communications between multiple vehicles and the control centre
  • Seamless connectivity demonstrating intelligent use of terrestrial and satellite communication
  • General use of the platform on a utility vehicle
  • High technology readiness level – using commercial off-the-shelf equipment

Stuart Martin, CEO of the Satellite Applications Catapult, said: “Communications are critical to safety, security and commercial services in ITS – and in particular to professional users such as the Emergency Services. This demo will show continuity of service for voice, video and data services over satellite and terrestrial communications technologies.

“For the past 18 months, the Catapult has collaborated with the Emergency Services community in the UK to shape the vehicular communication architecture. This activity has been driven by the need to support communication requirements – for voice and data – now and in the future. Based on the community’s existing and future requirements, satellite communication will play a critical role as part of a robust and always available vehicular communication fabric,” he added.
