The Copernicus Masters, Europe’s leading innovation competition for ideas that use satellite Earth observation data, has extended the deadline for entries until 08:00 on Monday 25 July 2016.
The Satellite Applications Catapult, a competition partner, has set a new Sustainable Living Challenge for 2016, looking for new satellite-based services that support global sustainable growth.
The Sustainable Living Challenge seeks new applications using Earth observation (EO) data to support agriculture, the use or protection of our oceans and seas, the development of smart cities and resilient infrastructure, or the management of natural resources from water to forests.
This year, there are seven Challenges in the competition and the winner of the Sustainable Living Challenge will receive £5,000 of business support from the Challenge partners to accelerate their business idea. They will also receive EO data from the European Commission to the value of £10,000 to help them develop their service.
In 2016, the Catapult is supported by Innovate UK, the UK Space Agency and the Science and Technology Facilities Council to help deliver the Challenge and business support package.
Finalists will also have the opportunity to be selected for the new Copernicus Accelerator that will support up to 40 competition finalists from across Europe to fast-track their ideas through tailored business coaching. Entrants will be matched to a mentor of their choice and the programme will kick-off in Madrid at the Satellite Masters Conference from 24-26 October which also includes the Copernicus Masters Awards Ceremony.
