Space Commercialisation Engine

The engine is a programme that supports innovative EO ideas through research, investigation, and development of an early-stage prototype within an accelerated time scale. This process also allows access to networks of partners and looks to open investment opportunities.

The process includes a review of the commercial case for the idea and then develops from idea to early-stage proof of concept within a 3-6 month period. Managed by the Satellite Applications Catapult, the Space Commercialisation Engine has access to considerable design and technical expertise, including cutting edge technologies from university partners.

The Environmental Space Living Lab unites space, market and tech experts with policy makers, academia and end users. This collaborative space enables the exploration and analysis of challenges, co-designing and testing innovative solutions, and accelerating their commercialisation. The ESA Business Incubation Centre United Kingdom (ESA BIC UK) is part of ESA Space Solutions and provides start-ups with technical expertise and facilities, business support, networking, office space and funding needed to overcome innovation challenges and accelerate business growth.

Part of ESA’s thriving Europe-wide network of Business Incubation Centres, the ESA BIC UK is managed by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and draws on both organisations’ outstanding track record in business incubation – providing a unique environment perfectly engineered to accelerate innovation and unlock commercial potential.
