"Welcome to the Emerging Technologies team web page. The information provided below gives you a snap shot on the disruptive technologies and innovations that the team are working on and how our team fits within the organisation. We are a small team of 7 enthusiastic individuals that pursue the development of cutting edge technology to generate impact to the UK economy, solve industry challenges and create market opportunities for industry players."
Paul Febvre, CTO
The Emerging Technologies team assist companies in advancing their products to be closer to market opportunities.
We identify the barriers to entry, such as regulation, powerful incumbents, or simple accessibility, and then find the mechanisms to overcome them. We provide the linkages to related technologies and their communities (like machine learning, geospatial and the ‘Internet of Things’) which enable the benefits of space to be realised.
We create long term strategic partnerships & alignment with industry/market requirements and technology advancements, securing collaborative projects and programmes to ensure maximum impact and benefit to industry of disruptive solutions.
Our critical activities include:
Exploring the use of quantum communication, computing and sensing to improve precision and further the exploitation of commercial satellite services.
Development of disruptive capabilities to support the UK and wider markets supply chain development in launch and propulsion. This includes activity to support launch organisations to accelerate their technology capabilities.
Exploring opportunities and enabling organisations to validate new concepts and technologies for the use of satellites in a 5G solution.
How can AI techniques be combined with space technologies? Satellites can be used to enable AI applications but equally AI techniques can optimise existing applications and services provided by satellites. Integration of AI techniques into satellite services can provide improved performance and further exploitation.
Exploring the use of satellite communications technology to support the operational requirements for a universal traffic management system and enable BVLOS operation of autonomous vehicles. Ubiquitous connectivity is essential for concept of operations and safety systems, and provides additional value to data acquired during flight – satellites can play a vital role in enabling this.
