Newquay Airport have secured up to £20 million from Cornwall Council and the UK Space Agency to continue with plans to develop the airport into a spaceport.

Spaceport Cornwall would work with US launch operator Virgin Orbit to develop launch capabilities that would allow small satellites to be launched from the UK within the next few years. This new spaceport is estimated to open up around 150 new jobs, and would enable the UK to compete for a share of the global market for small satellite launch.

These developments in Cornwall, alongside the plans to create a vertical launch site in Sutherland, will help to grow the UK’s reputation as a leader in the future of space exploration.
