Catapult focusing on education during World Space Week

By on

World Space Week started in 2000

Staff from the Satellite Applications Catapult are taking part in a variety of educational events throughout World Space Week from 4-10 October.

Members of the Catapult will be going into their local schools, addressing pupils from infants through to those doing their GCSEs. The engagements will provide an opportunity to share news of the latest developments in the UK and international space industry, explain what role space and satellites have in our day-to-day lives, and detail some of the projects in which the Catapult is involved, in the UK and abroad.

On Friday 9 October at 7pm, the Catapult will also be leading a one-hour ‘Talking Science’ event hosted by RAL Space in Harwell. Entitled ‘World Space Week; How the Earth takes Selfies’. The presentation will be led by one of our Earth Observation Specialists, Dan Wicks, and Head of Business Innovation, Sam Adlen, and will be open to adults, children and families.

Stuart Martin, CEO of the Satellite Applications Catapult, said: “With Tim Peake’s Principia mission to the International Space Station just two months away now, the interest in space is growing all the time. This has been particularly noticeable amongst schools which have embraced the various projects that Tim and the UK Space Agency have launched. We are therefore excited to be involved in supporting World Space Week and promoting the benefits and applications of space and satellite technology.”
