Our regions innovative space technology companies are leading the way this week at Space-Comm Expo.
Space-Comm Expo is the UK’s first conference dedicated to the commercialisation of space, running in Farnborough on July 7th and 8th, it features the supply chain of products, components, solutions and services that supply the space industry – showcasing the commercial opportunities within the industry that is worth £16.4 billion to the UK economy.
Here in the South Coast we have over 177 space industry specific companies in our region including BAE Systems, Airbus Defence and Space, L3 Harris, Mantel Labs, SSTL (and much much more!), covering everything from satellite launch to autonomous vessels, to the innovative application and democratisation of satellite data – our region certainly demonstrates the breadth and depth of the sector – many of whom are representing throughout the Space-Comm Expo- here are some of the regional highlights not to miss!

Space Entrepreneurs and Disruptors
Speakers include our regions very own Doug Liddle Founder & CEO, In‑Space Missions Ltd, and is moderated by: TV Presenter Dallas Campbell. Doug has recently announced the success of their latest launch with the Faraday Phoenix Satellite now in orbit so he will no doubt be sharing his thoughts on that as well as In-Space Missions plans for large scale recruitment crossing the skills gap.
Decarbonisation of Ports and Harbours Panel
Join the Decarbonisation of Ports and Harbours Panel to hear from the Solent Maritime Enterprise Zone’s Business Manager Jordan Thomas who will be sharing his maritime knowledge and their plans to launch the National Centre of Operational Excellence in Marine Robotics a combined testing and training site where companies can try out their autonomous and un-crewed surface vessels in the Solent region.
What does UK SDA Capability need to look like from 2030 – what is good enough?
This talk includes Clive Oates from SSTL, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd, one of the leading manufacturers of small satellites based in our region. A spin-off company of the University of Surrey and owned by Airbus Defence and Space. Clive will be sharing his thoughts on the future of small satellites and the technology that is coming over the next 20 years.

Our colleagues at EM3 LEP will be discussing space, talent and trade investment and talking about the growth of our Surrey Hampshire Space Hub at their stand. Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership are a business led partnership, bringing together private, public and not-for-profit sector organisations to determine local economic priorities and undertake activities which drive economic growth and productivity through innovation, job creation, improved infrastructure and increased workforce skills within our area. The Satellite Applications Catapult is an independent innovation and technology company, created by Innovate UK to drive economic growth through the exploitation of space. Working with businesses of all sizes to realise their potential from space infrastructure and its applications. Based in Harwell, Oxfordshire, The Catapult was established as one of a network of centres to accelerate the take-up of emerging technologies and drive economic impact for the UK. They would be delighted to share more in person.

For almost 40 years Spur Electron have been involved in the majority of Europe’s major space programmes including manned space activity, such as Spacelab and Space Station Columbus and deep space missions including the enormously successful Rosetta probe. They have expertise in n engineering, procurement, laboratory work, manufacturing, and design & testing and of course space. This is an opportunity to meet the team in person.
