Virgin Orbit Local Supply Chain Day

Nearly 50 years after the launch of Black Arrow, Cornwall and Virgin Orbit are bringing satellite launch back to the UK.

Virgin Orbit is working in collaboration with Cornwall Council and the UK Space Agency to deliver small satellite launch services from Spaceport Cornwall, Cornwall Airport Newquay, from October 2021.

Virgin Orbit is seeking suppliers to assist with an exciting project funded by Virgin Orbit, UK Space Agency, Cornwall Council and the Cornwall Isles of Scilly LEP. You are welcome to attend the event to hear about the programme and potential supply chain opportunities, to deliver the UK Launch capability.

The UK Space Agency has awarded a £7.35m grant to Virgin Orbit to develop its system for operation from the UK, and for UK manufacture of the Transportable Ground Operations Systems (“TGOS”). Cornwall Council have committed investment of £12m to enhance infrastructure at the airport to create a safe operating environment for Virgin Orbit. TGOS is a mobile ground support system, consisting of a series of trailers that will manage propellant (fuel and liquid oxygen) and distribute these commodities at the correct temperatures and pressures to our launch vehicle. Virgin Orbit is seeking to identify potential suppliers and manufacturers for this element of the programme as well as the wider supply chain to support the Spaceport operations.

The event will be of interest to potential suppliers that could provide Virgin Orbit with the following:

TIER 1: A supplier with the capacity/capability to build and deliver a fully-completed and tested TGOS System.

TIER 2: A supplier able to supply components for the TGOS, including: pumps, valves, vessels, sensors, controllers, actuators, pipes, fittings and aircraft skids that can meet and operate under temperature and pressure specifications to include assist with specialised testing of the subsystems and systems of the TGOS

TIER 3: A supplier that can provide general services and logistics needs
